Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the party reach areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Questers and Planners parties.
Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
